Master of Biotechnology
Unlike many other major universities, the University of Pennsylvania has its Medical, Dental, Nursing and Veterinary schools on the same campus as the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) and theSchool of Arts and Sciences (SAS). Another resource is the University of Pennsylvania’s own biomedical research center, the Institute for Medicine and Engineering (IME) which includes the Center for Bioinformatics and the Penn Center for Molecular Discovery. The IME, a collaboration between the School of Medicine and the School of Engineering and Applied Science, focuses on fundamental research in areas likely to develop practical application. The Center for Bioinformatics applies computational science to the analysis of the informational content of biologic databases such as the Human Genome Project. The Biotechnology Program benefits from its strong ties to both the IME and the Center for Bioinformatics.
Other campus resources related to the Biotechnology Program include the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and Veterans Hospital and important science centers such as the Wistar Institute, the Monell Chemical Senses Center, the Johnson Foundation and the Plant Science Institute.
